To keep up with the growth of EV technology, Target partnered with ChargePoint in 2012 to begin installing charging stations to the parking lots in various locations.
Since then, they have expanded their EV charging stations across states such as California, Hawaii, Minnesota, North Carolina, and Texas. Over the next two years, they forecast to have EV charging stations in over 600 parking spaces at 100 sites across 20 states. This a huge expansion project for Target, and it is also allowing them to reach their long-term goals of being more eco-friendly.
“Accelerating our efforts to install new charging stations at Target stores across the country is one way we’re building on our commitment to investing in solutions that leave our communities better for future families,” said Target VP of Property Management John Leisen. “And it’s an opportunity to work with industry-leading partners to bring a more convenient shopping experience to guests as we look to design lower-carbon solutions throughout our entire operation.”
By 2020, Target plans for 100% of their energy needs to root from renewable sources. They have begun utilizing wind and solar power, and this project will be a step in the right direction towards achieving this goal.
