The City of Chicago’s Green initiatives date back to 2013. By establishing benchmarks and goals, they ensured to audit and report the energy usage of buildings larger than 50,000 square feet annually. This simple maintenance resulted in a 4% reduction in their energy utility bills.
Since then, they have continued to grow upon these benchmarks to encourage higher efficiency and savings within their facilities. By 2019, they will be utilizing a 0-4 scale rating system that is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions of 26-28% by 2025.
